Marines

Published by mariemyers under Inspiration Edit This

What’s wrong with this picture?

If you look closely at the picture above, you will note that all the Marines pictured are bowing their heads. That’s because they’re praying This incident took place at a recent ceremony honoring the birthday of the corps, and it has the ACLU up in arms. “These are federal employees,” says Lucius Traveler, a spokesman for the ACLU , “on federal property and on federal time. For them to pray is clearly an establishment of religion, and we must nip this in the bud immediately.” When asked about the ACLU’s charges, Colonel Jack Fessender, speaking for the Commandant of the Corps said (cleaned up a bit), “Screw the ACLU.” GOD Bless Our Warriors. Send the ACLU to France !

Please send this to people you know so everyone will know how stupid the ACLU is getting in trying to remove GOD from everything and every place in America May God Bless America , One Nation Under GOD! What’s wrong with the picture? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING Marines get to pray when and where ever they choose.  Just ask them.

GOD BLESS YOU FOR PASSING IT ON!

My Story

I am not much for reading unless something catches my attention or if I have to read, I read. The Internet requires a lot of reading. You have to read in order to communicate online.

Here I am maintaining a blog. I use to write poetry and short stories and even started journals many times. I began writing my life down on paper to pass on to my children but I reach a certain time period and I stop and never restart. Hopefully one day I will be able to complete my story.

My blog contains many different topics because I have many different interests. I like to help others with information that I know of, and learn about. This is mainly because I was screwed over by not knowing things such as my legal rights pertaining to my children and my married life as well.

I built a career without a High School Diploma and way before I earned a degree. I do not recommend this way to go but this was the choice I had.

I began my career as a weekend dishwasher. This is when I was a single mom to my now 20 year old daughter who is my forth born. The owner (Diane) was a beautiful older Italian woman who needed extra help with cooking and asked my brother to teach me the ropes. He quit 2 weeks later without notice and showed me little.

Diane showed me what I needed to know and was pleased that I was able to handle things on my own the next day. This is how I gained the title “Professional Italian Sauté Cook” and I was proud. Having a title gives one pride and self worth. Since then I have cooked in many establishments in the south Jersey area. I ended my cooking career with the role as a manager with Little Caesar’s Pizza.

Since then, I have tried three different work-at-home companies and I could not make anything happen with them. As I am typing this, I see what the main cause of my failing attempts with this. I did not like the stuff (plain English). I thought they were priced to high but I could not offer much of a discount because of what I had to maintain each month. I would not use the stuff myself because I could get similar products in the store for cheaper prices.

I moved to NE Pennsylvania April 2003 (long story) and worked at a local corner store/gas station for a year and straight out quit because I hated it! I got into Home Health Care and realized that it is something that “I” cannot handle. I was introduced to a chance to do the education thing and did it.

I enrolled into a business school in the area and received an Associate’s Degree in June of 2007. I have remained unemployed since mid 2006. April 2008 I became a Home Based Business owner. Yes! I had to try it once more and it was something different about this company. I like the products and I like how the company runs.

I want to thank you for reading what I had to say.

Preschool Fun

Published by mariemyers under Household Tips Edit This

Pudding Finger Painting

Pudding
Vinyl tablecloth

This activity is fun for all, and safe for young children who can’t help but put their fingers in their mouth. Cover a table with a vinyl tablecloth. Put some pudding at each child’s place. Let them play!

Finger Painting

1/2 c. cornstarch
1 1/2 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. cold water
Food coloring

In a medium sauce pan, mix all the ingredients together. Cook over low heat 10 to 15 minutes, stirring until mixture is smooth and thick. Cool. Separate into storage containers and add food coloring as desired.

Playdough

2 c. flour
1 c. salt
4 tsp. cream of tartar
2 c. water with food coloring
2 tbsp. vegetable oil

Mix all ingredients together in a non-stick sauce pan. Cook over medium heat until mixture becomes a hard ball. Knead while warm for a smoother consistency. Recipe can easily be doubled or cut in half.

Homemade Paste

1/2 c. flour
Cold water

Add some cold water to the 1/2 cup flour until it is as thick as cream. Simmer and stir on stove for 5 minutes. Store in refrigerator in an airtight container when not in use. Boiled paste lasts longer and sticks better than no-cook paste.

Flubber

1 1/2 c. warm water
2 c. white school glue
1 1/3 c. warm water
3 tsp. Borax
Food coloring

Mix 1 1/2 cups warm water, glue, and food coloring together. In a separate bowl, mix 1 1/3 cups warm water and Borax together. Pour the glue mixture into the Borax mixture and take out of the bowl to knead until flubber is soft and consistent in form. Store in Ziploc bag or tightly sealed container. This stuff is really fun!

Homemade Bubble Solution

1 c. water
2 tbsp. light corn syrup
1/3 c. dishwashing liquid

Combine all ingredients. Mix solution well and allow to sit for 1 hour before using. Cover and label any leftover solution and store in the refrigerator.

Easy Steps to Speed Up Your Computer - Without Upgrading

I know that most of us has experienced a slow running computer moment at least once and found it very annoying to say the least. I found this list of possible solutions. I do know the name Jim Shutes from a site called Delphi where I use to spend a lot of hours on.

Try emptying your Temp directory regularly. After a short while, the temp directory fills up with hundreds of temp files that always get scanned over when Windows starts up and when programs launch. This slows everything down immensely.

Rule of thumb: If you don’t have any programs open (and nothing minimized in the bar below), then you shouldn’t have ANY temp files in your temp directory. If you do, delete them.

To delete Temp files, make sure NO programs are open, and.

  • A- In Windows 95, 98 or Me, go to C:WindowsTemp and delete everything inside the Temp folder.
  • B- In Windows 2000 or XP, it is a little trickier. First, make sure that you can see hidden folders. Double-click My Computer. Click on the Tools pull-down menu, and then on Folder Options. Click on the View tab. Scroll down and click on Show Hidden Files and Folders. Click Ok. Now you can go to the C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorLocal SettingsTemp folder. Delete everything here.

2. Empty the Temporary Internet Files regularly also. To do this, go to your Control Panel and double-click the Internet Options icon. Choose to Delete Cookies, and to Delete Files. This will clear all of your Temporary Internet Files.

3. Check your hard disks for problems.

  • Windows 95, 98, or Me, double-click My Computer. Right-click the C-drive and click on Properties. Click on the Tools tab and choose to check the computer for problems. If you choose to do a Thorough Scan, this will do the hardware check for physical disk damage or sector damage. Choose to fix any errors it finds.
  • Windows 2000 and XP, double-click My Computer. Right-click the C-drive and click Properties. Click on the Tools tab and choose to check the computer for problems. Click on Check Now. You will then have two check boxes. The top option is for the file check, and the second option is for the hardware (physical disk) check. Check either one, or both. At least check the top one. Hit ok, and reboot. This may take some time, but let it run.

4. An even more thorough disk check, would be to use a 3rd party utility. One of my favorites is TuneUp Utilities 2004. It does cost $39.99, but they do offer a FREE download trial of 15 days. This program does a really good job of fixing software and physical hard drive problems. It also tunes up your system for increased speed, and streamlines your operating system for peak performance. Download it HERE… http://www.lapeertechgroup.com/downloads.asp

5. You can do a few of the performance tweaks yourself, if you have Windows XP. By default, EVERYTHING is turned on in Windows XP. It isn’t very streamlined for performance, but rather for appearance. You can turn off a few of the unnecessary features, and Windows will still work just fine, and maybe a little faster.

To do this, right-click on My Computer and click on Properties. Click on the Advanced tab. Under the Performance section, click on the Settings button. On the Visual Effects tab, you will see a list of check boxes. By default, these are all on. You really don’t need any of them for Windows to run. Go through the check boxes one by one, and determine which ones you can and can’t live without.

6. Turn off Active Desktop. Active Desktop turns your desktop into a web page, and allows you to have things like a real-time calendar, and up-to-the-minute weather or stocks. These are nice, but really slow down your computer. And even if you don’t use Active Desktop for anything, just having it active can cause a performance decrease. Turn it off.

  • Windows 95, 98 and Me, right-click on the desktop and in the pop-up menu, choose Active Desktop. Inside that option, uncheck Active Desktop. If there is no check next to it, then it isn’t on. Don’t choose it. Instead, just click the desktop again to get out of the menu.
  • Windows 2000, right-click on the desktop and in the pop-up menu, choose Active Desktop. Inside that option, uncheck Show Web Content. Again, if there is no check next to it, then it is not on. Do not check it.
  • Windows XP, right-click on the desktop and in the pop-up menu, choose Properties. On the Desktop tab, choose Customize Desktop. Now, on the Web tab, make sure that there are no websites chosen here. If there aren’t any, then Active Desktop is not on. Cancel and go back to the desktop.

7. Install and run a good AntiVirus program to keep out viruses that can take over your system. One of my favorites is AVG. It is not only a really good AntiVirus program, but it is also FREE! If you don’t have any AntiVirus software on your computer, get AVG AntiVirus NOW by downloading HERE… http://www.lapeertechgroup.com/downloads.asp

8. Get rid of Spyware. A lot of computer users have Spyware and don’t even know they have it, much less how to get rid of it. If your computer takes you to websites that you don’t want to go to, or if you get pop-ups when you are not on the Internet, or if your computer has been running extremely slowly lately, for no reason, you probably have Spyware.

On all of the computers that I setup, I install two different AntiSpyware programs: AdAware SE and SpyBot. These two programs are highly recommended by TechTV (G4) and other computer authorities (including my own research on Spyware) and work very well together. They compliment each other and catch Spyware that the other misses, but together, do a very good job.

Get SpyBot HERE… http://www.lapeertechgroup.com/downloads.asp. Download all updates and run the Immunize option a couple of times.

AdAware SE does a good job when you keep up on the updates and manually scan your system with AdAware. Get it HERE… http://www.lapeertechgroup.com/downloads.asp

In some cases, when the Spyware has become too entwined into your system, even a computer repair technician can’t get rid of the Spyware. At this point, it is better to just backup only what you need and have the operating system reinstalled. Believe me, when your computer gets to this point, you don’t want to just put a “band-aid” on it. Just start from scratch with a clean system. It’s the best way to go.

9. Streamline MSCONFIG. One thing that really causes a HUGE performance decrease is to have unnecessary programs running in the background. Some of these programs can be seen in your System Tray (located next to the clock). These are tiny programs that are robbing you of memory and processing power. Some of them you need, while most you don’t. Some of the programs you DON’T need are printer icons, CD burning icons, shortcuts to programs (such as video settings), AOL, any Instant Messaging Programs, etc. Just because these programs aren’t always running, doesn’t mean that you still can’t print, burn CDs or Instant Message. They can all be run from a shortcut.

You can use a utility, called MSCONFIG, to turn OFF unnecessary Start Up items.

  • Windows 98, Me, and XP, click on StartRun and type msconfig. Click on the Startup tab. This is a list of everything that is running in the background, some of which show up in the System Tray. Now, be careful, some of these you do need. Some items to keep are Ctfmon.exe (XP), Scan Registry (Win98, Me), Task Monitor (Win98, Me), System Tray (Win98, Me), LoadPowerProfile (Win98, Me), Rundll.32, any AntiVirus programs (such as McAfee, Norton, or AVG). Others, you can uncheck, such as NeroCheck, ypager, qttask, AOL, and any other Instant Messaging programs, or printing programs. Remember, if something doesn’t work, because you turned it off, it can always be turned back on. You just have to reboot every time you make a change here. But, as you uncheck the unnecessary programs that run in the background, you will see that Windows loads much faster, that there are less icons in the System Tray, and that your system is much more “snappy” and quick to respond.
  • Windows 2000, MSCONFIG wasn’t supplied. You actually have to download and run an MSCONFIG utility. Download the MSCONFIG utility HERE… http://www.perfectdrivers.com/howto/msconfig.html.

After you reboot, you will have a window that says that the configuration utility was edited. Just check not to show that in the future, a check box at the bottom. This just means that there was a change made to the MSCONFIG.

10. Defragment your hard drives. NOTE: to efficiently defragment a hard drive, it likes to have 25% free space. It can still do the defragmentation with only 15% free space, but it takes quite a bit longer. If you can, delete any unnecessary files before deframenting your drives.

  • To defragment your hard drives (in any Windows operating system), double-click on My Computer. Right-click on the c-drive and click on Properties. Click on the Tools tab and choose the bottom button, to Defragment Now.

Shortcuts

Published by mariemyers under Household Tips Edit This

Here are a few shortcuts that will make the job of house cleaning easy and fast;

FAST CLEANING:

Use wipes!! Lysol, furniture polish, leather cleaner, and glass wipes can help you to go through your house fast and it makes it look like you spent hours and hours.

GET RID OF CLUTTER:

Pick up all of the things in a room that ‘don’t belong’ and the room will improve in looks about 75%. Put them in their proper homes and you have made a real difference.

CRAYON MARKS:

The best cleaner is to mix enough baking soda and water to make a paste, wipe over the spot and use a damp cloth to wash off. The baking soda will eat through the wax and pull the mark off.

 DEODORIZE FURNITURE:

Wipe your furniture with a damp cloth that is moistened with a solution of 1/2 cup baking soda to a gallon of water. The room will smell fresher and so will your furniture and it will get rid of dust, hair and residue. This will give your furniture a freshly washed look!

SPRAY AMMONIA:

Add ¼ cup of ammonia to a spray bottle and fill the rest of the way with water. Go from room to room and clean off all glass, knick-knacks, windows, mirrors and TV screens.

METHOD TO (FAST) CLEANING:

Instead of cleaning one room at a time, start on one wall of a room and follow the walls around the house cleaning everything you come in contact with. Leave the vacuuming (sprinkle baking soda on the carpeting first) until last and when you put the vacuum away your house is completely finished and ready for company.

Keep Tools Handy:

Keep all of your wipes, extra paper toweling and a small plastic bag in a container that you can carry along as you are cleaning. No more running to get another can or paper everything that you have is handy and your work goes faster.

10 MINUTE CLEAN-UP:

After a shower or bath, take a few minutes to use a glass wipe to clean off the counter, mirror, shower stall, handles etc. Your bathroom will always look clean and bacteria free and smell good too!

WASHING CLOTHES:

Throw a load of clothes in the washer before you sit down to eat, when you are through eating, throw them in the dryer and after the dishes are finished, your clothes will be too!

Today I Will Make a Difference

I will begin by controlling my thoughts. A person is the product of his thoughts. I want to be happy and hopeful. Therefore, I will have thoughts that are happy and hopeful.

I refuse to be victimized by my circumstances. I will not let petty inconveniences such as stoplights, long lines, and traffic jams be my masters. I will avoid negativism and gossip. Optimism will be my companion, and victory will be my hallmark.

Today I will make a difference.

I will be grateful for the twenty-four hours that are before me. Time is a precious commodity. I refuse to allow what little time I have to be contaminated by self-pity, anxiety, or boredom. I will face this day with the joy of a child and the courage of a giant. I will drink each minute as though it is my last. When tomorrow comes, today will be gone forever. While it is here, I will use it for loving and giving.

Today I will make a difference.

I will not let past failures haunt me. Even though my life is scarred with mistakes, I refuse to rummage through my trash heap of failures. I will admit them. I will correct them. I will press on. Victoriously. No failure is fatal. It’s OK to stumble…I will get up. It’s OK to fail…I will rise again.

Today I will make a difference.

I will spend time with those I love. My spouse, my children, my family. A person can own the world but be poor for the lack of love. A person can own nothing and yet be wealthy in relationships.

Today I will spend at least five minutes with the significant people in my world. Five quality minutes of talking, or hugging, or thanking, or listening. Five undiluted minutes with my mate, children, and friends.

Today I will make a difference.

EARLY Act

Published by mariemyers under News To Know Edit This

Did you know that when breast cancer occurs in women under age 40, it is often detected at later stages, is more aggressive, and less responsive to hormone therapies?

Despite these facts, there is a lack of awareness about the risks of breast cancer for young women and the unique challenges facing young women with breast cancer.

A bill just introduced in the Senate would change that. It’s called the Breast Cancer EARLY Act (Education and Awareness Requires Learning Young), and I just took action urging my senators to co-sponsor it - will you join me?

Click below to urge your senators to co-sponsor the bill and help young women around the country!

Mother’s Day Weekend of 2009

This weekend was special. Mother’s Day fell on my birthday this year and my niece was laid to rest the day before my birthday last year.

I packed up the car along with my family who live with me and went to New Jersey.

This weekend was a combination of celebrations. One year anniversary of my niece being laid to rest after her body was found. We celebrated one of my nephew’s birthday, Mother’s Day, and my birthday.

For some reason it seems that every time I go down to Jersey something keeps us there until after 9 p.m. and I hate that because it means I get to drive on the PA/Turnpike for 2 hours in the dark and an extra ½ tank of gasoline. You see nothing but a wall of reflectors. This can put anyone to sleep at the wheel which is a very freaky thing to have happen. It totally has nothing to do with self control either and that ticks me off even more.

We all met at my niece Felicia Mikels grave site and paid our respects with prayer and a few words to live by, so to speak. And then we all met back at my sister Lee’s house for food and chilin out with family. I got to know my two young adult son’s just a little bit better this time. And he got to see that I am more than just a mom.

Sunday, Mother’s Day and my birthday. I have never been much to celebrating my birthday but this year I received a mothers ring with my birthstone on it as well. I have always wanted a birthstone ring and a mothers ring but never liked what I seen that was not placed in a good price range until now.

My Kids

I chose to stay in my daughter’s house in Camden with all of my kid’s present and just watching movies and being themselves. It was nice to hear their voices all under the same roof along with all three of my grand babies. And it felt really nice to prepare food for all of them once again. This next photo is my grand babies…

My grandbabies

My youngest lives with his father in an area of Jersey which I am not familiar to drive; so, I get tied up in a knot pretty much if I have to drive around there after dark. On this trip my daughter decides to insist on giving me directions. After 2-3 blocks I knew it was the wrong way but I gave her the benefit of the doubt and resumed driving in the direction of my daughter’s choice because she is 20 years old now. Finally I turned around and shortly after, we seen signs that my choice was the right one.

Sometimes you just have to follow a person who insists they are right until you cannot handle it anymore and just slam on the breaks (so to speak) and make a sharp yuwie in order to get on the right path in so many situations of life.
